Fist Fight Erupts Yet Again Over Impeachment Move in Somaliland Parliament

HARGEISA, Somaliland (Somaliland Globe)- A commotion prevailed in the Lower House of Somaliland's Parliament over impeachment move against President Dahir Rayale Kahin in yesterday's parliament sitting, leading to a fist fight between members of the opposition camp and supporters of the ruling party.

Ibrahim Jama Rayte, KULMIYE MP, read the impeachment charges being brought against President Rayale by opposition members in spite of the provocative attempts by pro-government MPs to disrupt the session.

Meanwhile, pro-government MPs is said to have submitted a motion seeking to amend House rules so that the Speaker could be removed by a simple majority instead of the current two-third majority.

A leading pro-government MP, Harir Saeed Bulale, who was one of the signatories of the motion to amend House rules, declared in the parliament Tuesday that they had "withdrawn" their motion because "almost all my colleagues refused to attend and participate in the session".

When pro-government MPs realised that the motion was "not taken from the table", they started a commotion, leading to a fist fight between them and members of the opposition parties.

The confrontation between government supporters and the opposition continues unabated leading to an almost virtual paralysis of the parliament as President Rayale's loyal supporters fight tooth and nail to save him from impeachment and subsequent removal from office.
