Somalia: Somali legislator in a detention center in Somaliland

Somalia: Somali legislator in a detention center in Somaliland

Mohammed Mohamoud Farah best known as (Indobuur) a Member of Parliament in the Somali government led by his Excellency President Sheikh Shariff Sheikh Ahmed is detained in a detention center at Lasanod district in Sool region in the breakaway state of Somaliland.

Honorable Farah is in a jail in Lasanod for the 3rd day after he was arrested by the security personnel of Lasanod district.

Formally Mr. Farah was deputy district officer in the town of Lasanod before he has changed his mind to join the Somali transitional federal government, which was established in Djibouti in the beginning of 2009. The detention of the Somali MP by the security personnel of Lasanod district is not apparent though he is a native from the area.

"I know there is political misunderstanding between the breakaway state of Somaliland and that of Somalia, and I am a legal member of the Somali Parliament, and before I flew to Somaliland, I have asked for permission from the authority Somaliland and they have granted me to go-ahead to come into the region, and a day after I have joined my family in Lasanod I was arrested by the security personnel in Lasanod without even asking me a question" said Mr. Farah speaking to Somaliweyn Website.

So far the authority of Somaliland has not yet given comments regarding about the arrest of the MP.

This is not the first case of Somaliland authority to arrest Somali Members of Parliament in its territory.
