Wu Bangguo Meets with Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles
On August 15, 2011, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the NPC Standing Committee met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi at the Great Hall of the People.
Wu congratulated Prime Minister Meles on his successful visit to China. He said Ethiopia was among the first group of African countries to develop relations with China. No matter how the international situation changes, the bilateral friendly relations between China and Ethiopia has been growing along a smooth track. In recent years, the mutual political trust has been growing, the connotations of bilateral cooperation have been expanding, and the bilateral cooperation has witnessed remarkable results. The bilateral relationship between China and Ethiopia can be regarded as a model for the friendly relations between China and African countries.
China feels sincerely happy for the remarkable achievements made by Ethiopia in his nation-building endeavors. China is ready to join hands with Ethiopia to consolidate the traditional friendship and seize new opportunities for cooperation presented by the economic development of the two countries. China, based upon the national development strategies of each other, is willing to explore new ways of cooperation, expand areas of cooperation and upgrade the al-round cooperative partnership with Ethiopia to a new level.
Wu said the National People's Congress of China and the Federal Parliament of Ethiopia have maintained close exchanges and cooperation all the time. The two sides should continue to strengthen friendly exchanges, promote pragmatic cooperation and promote exchanges between political parties, local exchanges and people-to-people exchanges so as to add new contents and new vitalities into the bilateral relationship at the national level.
Prime Minister Meles said that the political, economic and trade relations between Ethiopia and China have been developing in a full-fledged manner in recent years, with productive results achieved. The leaders of the two countries, through frequent exchanges, have set the direction for the development of bilateral relations. Ethiopia and China enjoy promising prospects with the cooperation in a wide range of areas such as infrastructure construction, agriculture, mining, and aviation. The Ethiopian government welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest in Ethiopia and supports the parliaments of the two countries to play a greater role in advancing bilateral relations.
