Kimse Yok Mu to renovate Somalia's biggest hospital

Kimse Yok Mu to renovate Somalia's biggest hospital

09 October 2011, Sunday / TODAY'S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL

Kimse Yok Mu (Is Anybody There) will renovate Banadir Hospital in Mogadishu, the largest in the entire country, after signing a protocol with the Somali government last week.

Kimse Yok Mu will spend nearly $10 million to repair the hospital, which still bears the signs of a longstanding civil war in every corner of the building. With the modernization of Banadir Hospital, the foundation aims to meet the standards of hospitals in Turkey.

The hospital's current condition is far from sustainable in terms of hygiene and equipment. Doors and windows are broken, the toilets almost unusable. This lack of hygiene poses a health threat to newborn babies.

Kimse Yok Mu Africa branch President Orhan Erdoğan told Today's Zaman that the organization will provide the essential equipment and materials for the hospital. Hospital personnel will be sent to Turkey on an internship. He said the operating rooms have already been renovated.

“When all needs are fulfilled, the hospital will meet the standards of hospitals in Turkey. We will distribute medicine to patients for free. Additionally, food will be provided,” Erdoğan said.
