Arab League Council to hold special session for aiding Somalis
 
CAIRO, Aug 5 (KUNA) -- The Arab League Council is due to hold an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday at the level of permanent delegates to discuss prospects of increasing Arab aid the somali people who have been suffering from famine due to drought currently sweeping the Horn of Africa.
The Arab League Deputy Secretary General, Ahmad Bin Hilli, said in a statement to journalists on Friday that the planned meeting would affirm the Arabs' solidarity with the Somali people in the face of this catastrophe that has deeply afftected their livelihood.

Bin Hilli indicated n accord with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, Dr. Augustine Mahiga, worked out during his recent visit to the league headquarters, on a "road map" for coordinated conciliation efforts by the US, the African Union and the Arab League to re-activate "the political process for Somalia." He indicated at another meeting, due to be held at the level of Arab agencies and the UN, during the second half of this month, to coordinate the relief operations for the Somalis, and praised the Arab countries that have already dispatched aid supplies to the stricken nation -- namely Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Algeria, Morocco and Egypt.
